Forget the weather, get out there!

07 Dec 2009

Some fairly ordinary weather last weekend put the dampener on and kept most anglers off the water and away from the fish. For those who did brave the conditions or sneak out in the patches of good weather, the fishing continues to be excellent.

Port Phillip Bay
Good mates Darren Jansen, BOC Adam and Shifty headed down to Portsea Pier on Saturday morning. The boys ended with a nice bag of Squid. The top jigs for the day were Harimitsu 2.5 in BC, EWC and AG. Darren also caught a nice tailor on a 40gm metal slug.

Sunday morning Morne headed out with Darren and his wife Sarah, Simmo, and Shifty on board with Craig Seignior for some snapper on plastics. The weather was not great and neither was the fishing but there were plenty of good laughs to go around. Craig worked hard trying plenty of spots but the fish did not want to play. Oh well better luck next time. Happy Birthday Sarah! To book a charter with Craig contact him on 0409567438 or email www.vsfa.com.au

Matt Hunt Fished Monday night near the Fawkner Beacon and had a red hot session on the snapper. The fish were smashing the baits as well as Gulp 6" Grubs in New Penny and Nuclear Chicken. The fish were between 2 to 4.5kgs. To book a charter with Matt Hunt contact him on 0409008441 or email matt@fishingservices.com.au

Mordialloc pier has been fishing well for some big garfish over the last past week. The top baits have been peeled prawns and silverfish fished under a lightly weighted float. Burley is the key to bring them around and to keep them in the area. There have also been some squid taken off the pier this week. Try using squid jigs 1.8 to 2.0 sizes in natural colours and spray them with EgiMax to improve your results.

Good mate Mark Bolger has been fishing out of his Hobie kayak between Mornington and Sunnyside beach with great results. He has been picking up some nice snapper on soft plastics. Most fish are between 2.5 and 3kgs. He has been using Gulp 5" Jerkshads and fairly light jigheads as he has been fishing in under 10m of water.
Customer Scott popped in during the week and said that there have been a few whiting getting around from the Horse Paddocks and up into Beaumaris Bay. Moving around has been the key to finding them. Top baits have been pippies, mussels, and tube worms.
Scott Lovic from Hobie reports that there are plenty of squid on the inshore reefs from Mornington to Frankston. He says it's not hard to catch a bag of squid before or after work. Best jigs have been 2.5 in either Harimitsu or Yamashita.

Western Port
Good mate and customer Cam McNorton and mates fished Friday night out on the bay for some Gummys. The boys ended up with 4 gummies and one big wobbegong shark.

Gawaine from Think Big Charters has been having a great time out on the bay and giving his customers great results. Last Friday morning they bagged two ripper jews one going 18.6kg and a monster going 29.1kgs while fishing for gummies and schoolies.
