Merry fishing!

This week's reports:

Port Phillip Bay
Good mates Fred took Ari and staff member Eren out for a fish in his new boat on Sunday morning. The boys fished out deep off Mornington where they ended up with their bag of snapper, ranging 2 - 3.5kgs. Most of the snapper were taken on Gulp 6" grubs. The boys then went in and fished for some squid off Oliver's Hill, where they ended up with 30 squid all taken on size 2.5 jigs.

Matt Hunt fished Sunday morning with a charter and smashed the snapper off Mornington. The fished ranged between 2.5 and 4kgs, and were taking pilchards and squid. During the Week Matt also had consistently good catches of snapper out deep from Carrum and Mornington.

To book a charter with Matt contact him on 0409 008 441 or email at www.fishingservices.com.au. Matt is also taking bookings for tuna at Portland so get in quick to secure your preferred date next year!

Good mate and customer Anton fished Tuesday afternoon out of Oliver's Hill for some squid. He ended up with eight squid to 500grms. The two stand out jigs were Yamashita JP in colour QSK and Harimitsu 2.5 in colour MN.

Customer Greg Dixon continues his run of great snapper fishing with more quality sized reds taken over the past week. He sent us this pic-

Some nice whiting have been taken off the Horse Paddocks, and Brickies over the last week. Some guys are getting good bags but moving around is the key as the fish are moving around a bit. Top baits have been pippies, mussels, and squid strips. While fishing for whiting it is worth putting a Garfish rig out as there are some big gars getting around.

Westernport
Good mate Andrew Goodfellow fished the port Monday from Crib Point to Quail Bank. He caught plenty of small salmon at each stop but did manage six squid around the 1kg mark. He also caught plenty of pinkies and one gummy which went about 4.5kg..

Lee filmed for the new series of Adventure Bound out off Balnarring on Tuesday Afternoon. Morne came along in search of some whiting and some gummies. The boys caught a bunch of great whiting all between 38 and 47cms, with the average fish around the 44cm size. The best bait on the day was fresh squid. Lee also managed a 5kg gummy on a nibble tip rod while fishing for the whiting. They had a very sucessful day and the footage is sure to make a great show.

There have been good reports of nice sized gummies being taken up the North Arm of the port. Fishing the edges of the channels is the go. Best baits have been cured eel, stripey fillets, and squid heads. Berley is needed so that you can bring the fish to you.

Gawaine from Think Big Charters reports that there are good numbers of big whiting out off Red Rocks and McHaffies Reef. The fish are between 38-42cm. Top baits are pippies and squid strips. Berley with pellets soaked in tuna oil and crushed pippies and you are in the race for a great feed.

Brain Sanders fished with Gawaine during the week for some snapper off Corinella and had a great trip. Brain caught a lovely snapper going 8kgs on fresh squid. To book a charter contact Gawaine at www.thinkbigcharters.com.au

Bemm River
Good mate Grant with kids in toe fished Bemm River last weekend for some good results. They fished sandworms on the bottom with running sinkers in the lake and the channel. Some nice bream were caught as well as some ripper luderick.

Portland
Good mate and Adventure Bound presenter Scott Gray reports that the kingfish have turned up at Portland in good numbers and it will only get better over the next few weeks as the water warms up. Tuesday night he headed out for them and managed one nice king of about 10kgs. The kingie was taken on a Williamson Jet popper, but casting 9" Slapstix stick baits is worth a go.

Other great methods for catching this great sportfish include trolling squids strips, and fishing live baits like squid and salmon under ballons. Some areas to try are off Portland, Port Fairy and Warrnambool.

Scott also told us that there has been some great fishing off the beaches for school and gummy sharks at night. Some of these fish are up around 19kgs.

Kilarney Beach
Scott Gray has been hitting the beach of an afternoon and smashing salmon to 8lb. He has been catching them on the fly, but casting metal slugs and soft plastics is also worth a go.

Hopkins River
The river has been fishing well for bream over the last week with a range of lures and baits proving to be effective. Ask in store if you are heading down that way.

Goulburn River
Good customer Joel and his girlfriend fished the river over the weekend and had a ball. They walked the bank for two hours and landed seven nice cod between 55-75cms and two yellowbelly. Casting bibbed lures in green and black worked well, and pink and black spinnerbaits were the lures on the day. They were fishing between Shepparton and Kialla.

Rottnest Island
Good customer Ross Moor and his son fished onboard Blue Juice Charters last week in search of samson fish. The boys had a great two day trip catching 15 samsons, with most of the fish landed being around the 20kg mark; the best fish was up around the 45kg mark. Unfortunately for Ross the best fish he hooked got eaten by a shark, all fish were taken by jigging over the big schools that are concentrated on the reefs in the area at this time of year.
