VIDEO: Constructing the JD Reef

WATCH this footage of how Australia’s largest offshore artificial reef complex was constructed and installed off the southern Sydney coastline in October 2017.

The reef, named in honour of the late John Dunphy, is located in a depth of 30 metres approximately 2.5 km south-south-east of Jibbon Point near Port Hacking, NSW, and consists of 36 x 25 tonne concrete modules. By all accounts there are plenty of baitfish and other species hanging around already, and at leat one marlin has been hooked at the reef this season.

In even better news, there are plans to install five more artificial reefs of the NSW coast over the next few years.

Co-ordinates of the JD Reef are:

Central point of northern reef cluster: 34 05.660 S 151 10.658 E
Central point of southern reef cluster: 34 05.936 S 151 10.438 E
