SENIOR researcher Dr Sean Tracey, from the University of Tasmania’s Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, was recently joined by sportfishing legends Al McGlashan, Eddy Lawler and the Peak Sportfishing Adventures crew for the latest tagging excursion for an international billfish satellite tagging project — led by IFREMER: French Institute for Ocean Science. It’s a great example of joint fishing-sector/researcher collaboration helping to ensure the conservation of these magnificent sportfish.
The wider study will see around one hundred billfish species tagged and tracked across a region spanning the coasts of WA, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Mauritius with the research helping ensure stocks continue to be well-managed.
