RECFISHWEST recently helped release 100,000 juvenile pink snapper into Perth waters as part of the Snapper Guardians program.
Hatched and reared at WA’s Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development Aquaculture Centre, two of these releases took place at Cockburn Sound Power Boats Club and Fremantle Sailing Club.
The WA government has committed to another two years of stocking “pinkies” in the metro and a scientific research into the effectiveness of the stocking program. Recfishwest says the Snapper Guardians program receives major community support, first launched in 2015.
