Shimano Stella FJ

Shimano Stella FJ range

The Stella FJ range has been on the market a few months and Fisho was lucky enough to play with these before its official release earlier in the year.

The latest from the icocnic Stella range continues the high standard of reel with loads of great features in a high-end reel.

The FJ range features MicroModule II, a unique gear teeth surface design that makes it even smoother and quieter than its predecessors. The new Long Stroke AR-C spool increases casting distance, and the line clip has been improved so that light leaders aren’t damaged during storage. The Tangle-Proof Rotor design means errant strands of braid can’t hang up anywhere either. While SilentDrive further enhances the Stella and creates the ultimate feeling and silence of operation.

Saltwater use is not an issue, with EI Surface Treatment protecting the exterior, while the X Protect labyrinth system keeps water and dirt at bay in key areas such as the line roller, roller clutch and body, making the FJs durable for years to come.

All this is housed in a Hagane Body with 12 SA-RB bearings and one roller bearing, utilises X-Ship bearing supported pinion gear, plus a G-Free Body where the centre of gravity is closer to the rod for increased winding comfort.

There are five reels in the lineup from the 1000 FJ, right through to the C5000XG FJ. Drag power from the Rigid Support Drag is from 3-11kg, while gear ratios are from 5.1 to 6.4:1.

Okuma Azores Blue

Okuma Azores Blue Spinning Reels

THE new upgraded Okuma Azores Blue spinning reel offers anglers a heavy duty saltwater reel and big fish stopper that won’t break the bank.

Designed for saltwater fishing, the Azores Blue has features that include 6HPB + 1RB corrosion resistant stainless steel bearings, a dual anti-reverse system for maximum security, a corrosion-resistant coating process and corrosion-resistant, high density gearing.

According to the manufacturers, the reels have felt drag washers for a dual force drag, a system designed for maximum high-end drag pressure, efficiency and overall smoothness, and which provides maximum drag pressures well above many equivalent size reels. The reels are said to gave an impressive 13 kg maximum drag on the 4000 and 5500 size reels, and 20 kg maximum drag on the 6500, 8000 and 9000 sizes.

The Azores Blue has a rigid diecast aluminium body, sideplate and rotor, combined with a carbon mechanical stabilising system, which stabilises the spool shaft at three key stress points to eliminate flex under pressure, meaning strength, durability and minimal flex, and keeping internals aligned and running smoother. The feature list continues with a watertight drag seal, machined aluminium handle and machined aluminium spool with long cast lip.

Suggested retail prices: 4000 – $179.90 / 5500 – $189.90 / 6500 – $209.90 / 8000 & 9000 – $219.90.
