2014 Flathead Classic on next month

WITH only a few weeks remaining until the 2014 Flathead Classic on Queensland’s Gold Coast, the event is shaping up to be another beauty!

This year’s Classic will see cricketing great Merv Hughes as MC for the event which kicks off on Thursday October 2 and runs through until Saturday October 4.

The final day of fishing competition on the Saturday will see a later finish time trialled for the first time and will be followed up by the official dinner and presentation in the evening – a departure from previous lunch and afternoon presentations.

Whether you are a tournament regular or a first timer this iconic tournament, now in its 21st year, should be on your calendar. It is so much more than a fishing comp with a great event wrapped around excellent fishing. The estuaries of the Gold Coast are renowned for their big flathead and there is no better time to go “crocodile hunting” than this time of year.

The format is over three days and is an eco-friendly catch and release comp, so no live wells are needed. What you do need though is a digital camera to capture your catches with against the tournament ruler which is provided at our briefing.

Please note: it is a lure and fly comp so sorry… no bait allowed.

The comp can be fished as a team of two or three and Champion Team and individual trophy categories are awarded along with other species trophies. However, all big prizes are won by random draw!

Entry fee includes: Tournament entry, a team Tournament Bag packed full of goodies, Tournament Shirt for each angler plus 4 dinners, as well as your entry into the Lucky random draw. No onsite camping is available and accommodation is your responsibility. A number of local accommodation places including Rays resort, Coomera Houseboats and Thornton Towers are offering a discount if you mention the Flathead Classic!

Registration: Wednesday 1st Oct from 4.00pm

A full copy of the rules is available at: www.goldcoastsportfishingclub.com.au
