Billfish spice up winter for game fishers

GAME fishers along the NSW coast have been experiencing surprising results, with reports surfacing of boats catching gamefish more commonly found offshore in the warmer months.

According to Dave Fenech of the Jervis Bay Game Fishing Club, as well as the expected seasonal captures of yellowfin tuna and albacore, boats from the south coast based club have also been encountering spearfish and marlin offshore.

Fenech says two spearfish were caught by JBGFC club boats in recent days, one tagged in 500 fathoms north of Jervis Bay on board his boat OffTap (see pic) during the recent Southern Zone Pointscore weekend, and another caught and released off Sydney by Angie 2.

He says OffTap’s spearfish fell victim to a locally made JB Lures 8″ Evil Dingo fished on 24 kg tackle and swam away strongly after release.

Hopefully this all points to a spectacular upcoming spring/summer game season!
