The time has come. I'm doing the one thing that can seriously put a dent in my fishing time and it's even worse than selling my boat. I'm getting married!
Yes, that's right. For better or worse I will now have to justify why I need to go fishing and rationalise why the lawns don't need to be mowed, even though the grass is at knee height.
The truth is I have it pretty good. I get a "guilt free" fishing session every Saturday and my soon-to-be-wife pretty much let's me buy anything fishing related I want. For how long this charade will play out who knows!
All I know is some guys out there have it way tougher than me. All I keep hearing is how my fishing days are soon to be over once we tie the knot. This obviously stems from experience for some guys; very sad indeed. I've heard of footballers' wives, but in our sport we certainly have fishing wives - ladies that play second fiddle to fishing.
Some of you boys might even have a missus who shares your passion. I often wonder if this is a blessing or a curse. Someone wise once told me that you never mix business with pleasure. Or was it mix hobbies and wives?
So in the spirit of good humour let's bring on the funny fishing anecdotes and stories you fishos have that highlights the fact, that for most of you, your wife comes second to fishing!
Let me start the proceedings. I heard a good one that describes man's obsessive urge to hide what we pay for gear.
My greatest concern is that when I die, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.
