THE NSW Department of Primary Industries is reminding anglers that the annual zero bag limit closure for Australian bass and estuary perch (EPs) – in all NSW rivers and estuaries – is in effect from May 1 until August 31 (inclusive).

The closure provides protection for these hard-fighting native sportfish, as they migrate towards salt water for spawning. The zero bag limit does not affect anglers fishing for Australian bass and estuary perch in freshwater lakes or rivers above dams.

Bass and EPs caught during this period must be returned to the water immediately with the least possible harm.
