Council to clean up Macquarie River litter problem

A COMMUNITY clean up of the Macquarie River has prompted Dubbo Council to take action and permanently fix the ongoing litter problem plaguing the river.

Dubbo’s Daily Liberal newspaper reports at the August Ordinary Meeting of Council on Monday, a motion was passed to convene a meeting of interested parties to address the level of litter in the river.

The Council, according to the Daily Liberal, also resolved to continue to seek grant funding for the installation of more gross pollutant traps (GPTs) in Dubbo and to make the traps a priority in the 2016-17 budget preparation process.

Last month around 40 Dubbo locals gathered to clean up the river and removed an enormous amount of bottles, cans, household waste, syringes, shopping trolleys and more.
