A Victorian couple have allegedly been caught with an illegal net containing more than 1000 juvenile bream, nearly 900 of which were already dead.

A phone call to the Victorian Fisheries Authority last weekend has helped Fisheries Officers remove two illegal nets from Sanctuary Lakes and seize several others from a Point Cook residence.

The first net allegedly contained more than 1,000 juvenile bream. Officers managed to release hundreds of live bream from the net, however nearly 890 were already dead.

The second net contained no fish.

Fisheries Officers later attended a residence and allegedly discovered 5 more nets, which were seized along with a 2012 Toyota Camry.

A man and woman will be charged with using and possessing commercial fishing equipment, taking undersize fish and taking more than the catch limit.

The pair face fines of over $16,000 and up to 6 months imprisonment.
