NSW DPI Fisheries Officers were conducting patrols on the Murray River in the Riverina recently, when one officer got some unexpected assistance after finding 12 set and unattended fishing lines near a camp, at the Gunbower Island boat ramp.

During the inspection, a curious Eclectus Parrot decided the officer required a deputy to solve the ‘crime’.

The parrot, a much loved pet of a nearby camper, hopped onto the officer’s shoulder whilst he was speaking with a number of people about the unattended lines.

A number of unattended hand held lines were seized and a fisher was fined for not attending their fishing lines.
