POST-GRADUATE university students are being encouraged to apply for the John Holliday Student Conservation Award, which recognises research that has outstanding contributions to the management of our fisheries and aquatic habitats.
The 2019 award is open to all post-graduate students (Honours, Masters, PhD students or other post-graduate students) currently enrolled at an Australian university and are undertaking fisheries-orientated research in New South Wales. The winning entrant will receive a cash award of $3,000
Entrants are judged by a panel, including from NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSWDPI) and a representative of a NSW conservation group.
NSWDPI Director Fisheries Research, Dr Natalie Moltschaniwskyj said the award is a tribute to one of the pioneers of fisheries conservation in NSW.
“The John Holliday Student Conservation Award is named in honour of the late Dr John Holliday, a former Senior Conservation Manager, who dedicated 26 years to aquaculture and fish conservation issues for NSW Department of Primary Industries,” Dr Moltschaniwskyj said.
“Dr Holliday made a huge contribution to the work undertaken here and successfully pioneered the Department’s involvement in aquaculture and fish conservation issues. I encourage students to submit their applications and be recognised for their own research work,” Dr Moltschaniwskyj said.
Applications for the 2019 award must be submitted by 25 July 2019.
