FISHING World contributor Nathan Bajada, onboard his boat Finfisn, took out Champion Tag & Release Boat Under 8m and finished in 10th place overall from a field of 135 boats over the weekend during the 2017 Garmin Billfish Shootout held at Port Stephens (NSW).

Fishing with his wife Amanda and mate Brad Corrie as Team Garmin / Finfisn, like many teams they found both the weather and the fishing very tough. The usual inshore fishery was virtually non-existent however boats venturing wider managed to find a few fish.

“We had two bites on the Saturday over the shelf from a small Black Marlin, frustratingly neither bite found the hook. Then on Sunday, fishing the cold, green water we ended up with a double hook-up… one stayed connected which we were lucky enough to tag on 10kg line,” Nathan said.

“We’ve had an enjoyable couple of season’s recently and the weekend’s result is just the icing on the cake for us!”
