FISHPOND USA, the creator of high quality fly fishing and outdoor travel gear and accessories has added a range of high-quality Nomad landing nets to its range – now available in Australia.
Nomad nets are made from a composite of carbon fibre and fibreglass and are extremely strong, lightweight and durable as well as waterproof, weatherproof and buoyant.
Two styles will appeal to the trout and freshwater angler: the Nomad Hand Net is 26” long with a 13”W x 18”L head dimension. This short-handled style with a cord and clip will suit attachment to the back of a fly vest.
The Nomad Mid-Length Net has the same head dimension as the Hand Net but is 37” long. This length gives the angler greater reach and though seemingly long to carry conveniently, is a favoured size for many anglers particularly among US professional trout guides. The guides’ practice of carrying the net with handle shoved down between the back and the lumbar (bum) bag may seem ungainly but Fishpond says this method of stowing is both comfortable and convenient and doesn’t impede the guide/angler when fishing or walking.
The Nomad nets feature a clear, soft rubber mesh bag which has proven to be far less damaging to fish through not absorbing their protective slime; an important feature where fish are to be released. Replacement rubber mesh bags will also be available.
The nets are finished in a special “RiverKoat” finish, a rubberized paint which provides excellent wet grip, which will be available in two colour styles: Riffle Camo and Tailwater (Brown Trout pattern).
The Nomad Hand Net and Mid-Length Net will sell for around $219 and $269, respectively.
