Gippsland Lakes Recreational Fishery Plan Survey

THE Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) is conducting a survey to ask recreational fishers about their values and aspirations for recreational fishing in the Gippsland Lakes.

The VFA says, it wants to see the Gippsland Lakes returned to a recreational fishing mecca.

A key action for recreational fishing in the Gippsland Lakes was the removal of commercial netting, achieved in April 2020.

Now, a Draft Gippsland Lakes Recreational Fishery Plan 2020 has been released for public comment (click here to read the plan). The plan maps out a suite of proposed actions for recovering the recreational fishery, including changes to recreational fishing regulations such as catch and size limits for iconic species such as black bream, more fish stocking and improving fish habitat.

The VFA is keen to hear from you about what you believe are the priority actions for recovering the Gippsland Lakes to a valuable, productive and quality recreational fishery.

Take the survey.
