Timeis running out to have your say on the proposed amendments to Queensland fisheries regulations.

EXTENSIVE consultation has occurred over the last 18 months regarding proposed amendments to the Fisheries Regulations 2008. All feedback has been considered by the relevant working groups and the Sustainable Fisheries Expert Panel, and a number of changes have been made as a result of that feedback.

This is now the final round of public consultation on proposed regulatory changes.

The proposed changes to the Fisheries Regulation 2008 aim to:

  • implement the fisheries reforms – essential for long-term sustainability and profitability
  • progress urgent sustainability actions to take the pressure off snapper and pearl perch
  • standardise fishing rules and strengthening enforcement powers
  • reduce red tape and remove unnecessary restrictions.

The Fisheries Regulation has also reached its 10-year statutory life and needs to be remade by September 1, 2019.

Fisheries Queensland is seeking feedback from all fisheries stakeholders on the proposed changes. This consultation closes 5 pm, Friday, July 19, 2019.
