Let the Max take you

Fancy a large fibreglass centre console bluewater sportfisher? The Ocean Max Offshore 24 could be just the boat for you.

Released at this year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show the Ocean Max has all the stylings and fit-out of an American sportfisher, while being a Queensland built product. The OM 24 is the brainchild of specialist boat builders and shipwrights Max Watts and Jason Wellington Stones. Fisho spotted the OM 24 at this week’s Suzuki 2010 media day. Fitted with a 250hp Suzuki four-stroke the centre console had plenty of power on tap and seemingly ate up the water to hit 34.9 knots @ 6200rpm. Of note is the hull’s max power rating of 400hp; those with a liking for dual outboard installations would have a speed machine on their hands here if fitted with twin 150s, 175s or even 200hp outboards.

The centre console notably boasts plenty of freeboard for offshore fishing duties. The 2.5m beam is carried forward to give the boat a broad working bow section. The boat’s high level of fit-out includes high quality alloy pipe work evident on the tower frame, rod holders and helm seat (by QLD-based Black Marlin Towers), under seat Ocean Max monogrammed ice box, good overhead and under gunwale rod storage, live well, quality upholstery, and a roomy under console head that’s sure to keep the family and any female fishos on board happy. All up BMT towing weight is around 3 tonnes.

Future plans for the Ocean Max Offshore include the introduction of a cuddy cabin model later this year. For more information contact 0422 605 899; www.oceanmaxmarine.com.
