LOCAL NSW councils will have the option to take action on boat trailers parked for more than 28 days in the same spot from July 1st this year.

The Office of Local Government (OLG) has released a circular to local councils explaining arrangements for the commencement of the amendments to the Impounding Act 1993 that were assented by Parliament in September 2015, regarding the parking of boat trailers.

The Impounding Act 1993 will now be amended by the Impounding Amendment (Unattended Boat Trailers) Act 2015 from 1 July 2016, allowing councils and impounding authorities to “opt in” to take impounding action against boat trailers parked for more than 28 days.

A copy of the circular is available on OLG’s website at this link. It provides extensive details about the new regulations and how councils will act.
