Mainstream media picks up on “billaBONG” barra

AN image recently published in a Queensland regional newspaper featuring an angler displaying a large barra caught in Lake Tinaroo has received a surprising amount of mainstream media attention. And it’s not because of the fish. As well as all the usual stuff like sounders, rods and lures, the image also shows what can be described as a “fishing enhancement device”.

If you look closely at the image you’ll see what we are talking about. It’s located near the Humminbird sounder … Anyone who has lived through the 1970s will instantly know what it is. In a surprise turn of events, the device does not appear to made from an Orchy bottle. We can confirm, however, that someone’s garden hose is several inches shorter than it should be.

Perhaps not surprisngly, Darwin’s NT News has dedicated significant coverage to this story, with an unnamed expert being quoted as saying the “mystery equipment might be some sort of fish attracting technology”.

“Perhaps it makes a bubbling sound which simulates schooling baitfish,” the NT News quotes its expert as saying.

“This would in turn attract larger predators like big barra to the area.”

Fisho is not in a position to comment on the veracity of the information being quoted by the NT News. However, since the prestigious Top End newspaper is well known as being a reliable source of info on matters such as these, we have no reason to doubt that their resident expert knows what he is talking about.
