Mercury launches 135 four-stroke

MERCURY Marine has announced the release of its new 135hp FourStroke EFI outboard.

“We’ve developed this model specifically from the feedback given to us by Australian and New Zealand consumers and dealers,” said Nicholas Webb, Director of Engines and Marketing, Mercury Marine ANZP.

“They love our latest generation high cubic capacity, low weight FourStrokes and wanted the same technology to fit to 135 and 140hp rated boat transoms. It’s exciting just how competitive this model is, with its 3.0 litre capacity going competitor Four Strokes at just 1.8L or 2.0L. Customers are definitely going to be impressed by the refinement and performance characteristics of this engine. It’s every bit as good as its FourStroke siblings.”

Maercury says the compact 135hp FourStroke EFI has a 3.0-litre, 4-cylinder in-line configuration, is low weight, has fewer moving parts, and has been designed to be incredibly reliable and durable – ready, willing and able to handle work in any conditions.

Other features:

  • Its 4.9 inch (12.5cm) gearcase housing is built to handle higher horsepower, but thanks to its ultra-efficient hydrodynamics this larger housing doesn’t increase drag.
  • Maintenance free valve train for life.
  • Its focus mount system, which situates the mounts farther from the powerhead, significantly reduces mount temperature and significantly increases mount durability.
  • Its lightweight thermo-bonded top cowl provides for long-life, a watertight seal and easy access.A high grade steel is used to produce its balance shaft gears.

Like many of Mercury’s latest FourStroke models, the new 135hp FourStroke EFI can be rigged with the full suite of Mercury SmartCraft gauges and Mercury’s innovative BigTiller system.

“Like the 150 before it, this is an engine which has it all – reliability, smooth operation, a great torque curve, low weight, compact size and excellent fuel economy,” said Nicholas.
