Monster Mallacoota flathead!

FISHING World writer Greg Finney today flicked through this photo of a monster flathead that was reportedly caught recently at Mallacoota in Victoria.

Details of the catch are scarce although we do believe the huge lizard weighed around 14kgs (29 pounds); no information either on whether or not this big breeder was released to go on producing little lizards for the future. We hope so...

Fisho contacted Merimbula-based fishing charter operator Bruce Libbis to see if he had any knowledge of the catch. Libbis said he'd seen the pic but couldn't confirm the location or provide details of the angler. He did say though that he recalled seeing a photo of a 28lb flathead caught in Ballina in the 1970s. He reckons this "mystery" flathead looks at least as big as that '70s lizard.

Can a reader shed any more light on this meritorious catch?
