The Murray cray season opens in parts of NSW and Victoria this weekend, June 1.

ANGLERS in NSW and Victoria are set to brave the winter weather in the name of a favourite crustacean, with the Murray crayfish season officially opening this Saturday June 1, through to Saturday August 31, 2019.

In the Murray River, fishing is permitted between the Hume Weir and the Tocumwal Road Bridge, including Lake Mulwala, and in the Murrumbidgee River between the Gundagai Road Bridge and Berembed Weir, excluding Old Man Creek.

In Victoria, the Mitta Mitta, Kiewa, Ovens and Goulburn River catchments are the places to go to catch a feed of delicious crays.

During the season, the minimum size limit for the species is 10 cm measured from the rear of the eye socket to the centre rear of the carapace; the maximum size limit is 12 cm.

There is also a daily bag limit of two crayfish and a total possession limit of four.
