FISHO was contacted last week by Mark Saxon of Castaway Estuary Charters with news and photos of a very notable catch.
The photos hereabouts feature Castaway client Mark Ternen with a 113cm cobia he caught in the Hastings River at Port Macquarie while lure fishing.
In an email to Fisho, Mark Saxon wrote:
"The cobia was hooked at 7am at Dennis bridge, Hastings River Port Macquarie and proceeded to travel down stream for approx. 1 km against the tide ... we had the fish to the side of the boat at least 6 times before it would dive and give us hell for another ten mins, 1 hour and ten minutes and a lot of tense moments we finally got it close enough to get on board much to both our delight, awesome fight ..."
For the record the lucky angler hooked the cobe on a 6" Gulp Nemesis in Camo (covered in Sax Scent gold prawn) on a Fintech SS minnow jighead, Abu Veritas 4kg rod, Shimano Stradic FJ3000 with 15lb braid and 20lb Sunline FC Rock fluoro leader.
