AFTER 10 years of negotiation by the members of South Sydney Amateur Fishing Association (SSAFA), ANSA and the Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW, public consultation on design ideas for a new boat ramp in Botany Bay is now underway.
With the support of Robert Brown MLC (Shooters & Fishers), Roads & Freight Minister Duncan Gay and NSW fisheries minister Katrina Hodgkinson – and almost 12 months of behind the scenes work – a new ramp planned for the Cooks River will help alleviate overcrowding at the Foreshore Rd boat ramp at Port Botany.
Members of the SSAFA, ANSA and the RFA last year signed off on preferred models and locations for a new fishing platform and two new offshore artificial reefs and eagerly awaited the release of the public consultation phase of the new boat ramp to complete the $5m payout for loss of access due to the Port Botany Expansion.
Information on the ramp proposal is available on the website and community survey. The closing date for the survey is April 2, 2015.
A community information session will also be held on Saturday 21 March 2015 at Kyeemagh Boat Ramp Reserve, Mutch Avenue, Kyeemagh between 10am and 12 pm. If there is interest, this will include a visit to the project site at 11:30 am. Please feel free to attend this session.
