Push for “world class” rec fishing in NSW

AS the 2015 NSW election looms, rec fishing groups are seeking to put the state’s favourite pastime foremost on the agenda of political parties.

Recreational fishing is a major part of NSW’s economic, social and health wellbeing and generates about $1.6 billion expenditure into the state’s economy each year and creates the equivalent of about 14,000 full time jobs.

In recent weeks Australia’s tackle industry body the Australian Fishing Trade Association (AFTA) sent a letter to political leaders detailing a “new vision” for recreational fishing in NSW. See details HERE.

The Recreational Fishing Alliance, NSW’s peak angling organisation, is also advocating on behalf of the state’s one million recreational fishers in the lead up to the March 28 election and is seeking commitments from major political parties to help make NSW a world class recreational fishery.

The RFA has broadly consulted with its members, the recreational fishing community and the tackle industry in the development of these priority policies and projects.

The RFA is calling for political parties to respond to “restore the balance” and has released a series of proposals to improve recreational fishing in NSW.
