Reach for the Skyline

Well known Tasmanian fly-fishing guide and casting instructor Peter Hayes has some definite views of fly line colour and its visibility to trout. Hayes's views have developed from his many years of experience as a professional guide, fishing for and observing trout behavior on the lakes of Tasmania's Central Plateau.

Hayes believes that the angler who uses a sky-blue colour line on a blue-sky day has an advantage; the type of day universally accepted as the ideal condition under which to polaroid for trout. Hayes says that a line of this colour is less likely to alert a trout that is being fished over than any other colour. So convinced is he of the benefits of such a line, he discussed with Mayfly Tackle, the Australian agents for Scientific Anglers, the possibility of having such a line made available for his clients. As Mayfly had previously commissioned Scientific Anglers to produce Aussie hybrid lines such as the Striped Bass line with a Tropi-Core coating, the company was open to another challenge.

As a result the Hayes SkyLine GPX - "The Polaroiding Advantage" - has been born. The line is based around a GPX taper, Scientific Anglers most popular selling line in Australia, but in a sky-blue colour instead of Willow.

The Hayes SkyLine sells for $124.95 RRP and is now available from Mastery dealers.
