REPORT: June sees snapper move into Hervey Bay

JUNE saw some great snapper fishing with Hervey Bay Fly and Sportfishing clients catching some quality fish, according to guide Andrew Chorley. This time of year is well known for targeting big snapper in Hervey Bay and as per usual soft plastics and soft vibes, as well as jigs, have been getting good results.

Apart from snapper, other species like tuna, mackerel and various cods were around in good numbers throughout June. Winter can often see big schools of trevally on some of the reefs, which can make for some exciting fishing.

It’s been a wetter than average winter for the Fraser Coast, but it looks now be stabilising into the usual winter pattern. Snapper will stay around throughout July and August with golden trevally, cobia, mackerel and longtail tuna also likely to feature heavily over the next month or two.
