Salina 3 – the toughest yet

OKUMA says its new Salina 3 spinning reel has drawn from its proven predecessors to offer more technological enhancements to satisfy heavy tackle saltwater anglers.

The latest in metal technology features on the Salina 3 with Okuma’s proprietary T480 aluminum alloy body, side plates and rotor design providing unmatched corrosion resistance for a reel of its kind.

T480 is a completely new, completely unique aluminum alloy. Non-anodised T480 shows zero structural damage after 480 hours of continuous saturated salt spray; a timeline on which standard aluminums reach the point of catastrophic failure. Each reel is then further protected by an anodising process, paint and finally Okuma’s CRC process of CorrosionX coating.

The main gear of the Salina 3 is helical cut from high density material claimed to be 50 per cent stronger than standard and combines with a machine-cut brass pinion gear to produce a drivetrain that is smooth, efficient and tough.

An oversized screw-in aluminium handle provides a non-slip grasp on the drive of the reel ensuring no pressure is lost during lengthy battles.

Thenew Salina 3 reels incorporate a DFD: Dual Force Drag system that houses an upgraded Carbonite washer stack complete with Cal’s Universal Drag Grease; a multi-disk drag on top of the spool works in conjunction with a secondary drag on the bottom of the spool to maximise high drag pressures and give a smooth release of line. Other features include an oversized bail arm, elliptical oscillation for improved line lay, Okuma’s Rotor Equalising System, eight HPBB bearings, a quick set anti-reverse roller bearing and Okuma’s “Hydro Bloc” watertight drag seal.

Available in seven models over four sizes in standard and high speed gearing.
