Savage gets a good wrap

AUSTRALIA’S oldest boat manufacturer Savage Aluminium Boats yesterday unveiled its latest range in a media gathering in on the Gold Coast Broadwater.

Under the slogan “oldest brand, newest boats” the Queensland boat maker has added a fresh new look to its existing range and added several additional models.

Savage territory sales coordinator Jack Beierer said the updates have come from listening to feedback from dealers and customers.

“We have invigorated the range and given the Savage dealers the opportunity to compete with all the other brands out there,” said Beierer.

Savage’s popular Piranha range has been replaced with the new Scorpion model which includes the 435, 455, 485, and 485 Pro. The different sizes are available in various side console, centre console or tiller configurations.

The Scorpion range is an open deep-vee boat with generous freeboard. I can see this style of boat appealing to northern fishos looking for an affordable package for chasing fish around the inshore reefs and estuaries. Down south, lure and fly fishos working the estuaries would also find this style of boat appealing. They feature fully carpeted floors, casting platforms, livewell, universal Lowrance transducer, optional rod locker and plenty of storage. The 485 Scorpion Pro features all the above features plus a pod transom configuration.

Savage said there was demand in the range for a larger cabin boat. The 575 Blue Water was the answer and offers an entry level offshore or family bay boat. Retailing as standard from under $48,000, the 575 offers good value and a range of options to suit buyers’ needs.

With a 95 litre fuel capacity, you won’t be making long runs offshore, but it should work fine for general open water fishing. The new model has already been popular in Victoria with Port Phillip Bay fishos. The 575 featured a 150 Evinrude E-TEC which provided plenty of power and good fuel economy at mid range. The Blue Water line-up also includes a smaller 545, which has the same cabin area, but with less cockpit space. Both boats feature 4mm aluminium bottoms.

The entire range has undergone a change of image with new graphics and a choice of optional wraps in various. The wrap on the Scorpion Pro looked great!

Other boats in the range include a new 375 Cartopper, the 495 and 545 Bay Cruiser and a few changes to its range of basic Big Daddy tinnies.

With a history dating back 115 years, it’s good to see Savage still listens to its customers by adding models and features that fishos want. Best of all, these boats are priced within reach of the average person.
