IN news Australia’s rec fishers probably hoped was an April Fools’ Day joke, it has been reported the 95m factory trawler Geelong Star has arrived in our waters to fish the Small Pelagic Fishery.
Super trawler protest group Stop The Super Trawler today posted on its facebook page that the controversial ship has docked in Albany, Western Australia.
Despite much public opposition the Geelong Star has been brought into Australia by Seafish Tasmania, with approval from the federal government, and is expected to be shortly fishing commonwealth waters off Australia’s East Coast.
