A new survey hopes to measure the social and economic value of recreational fishing and boating in Victoria.

WHAT’S the current social and economic value of recreational fishing and boating in Victoria? That’s the question that the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) is hoping to answer by launching a new survey with Ernst and Young this month.

Ernst and Young’s previous study on this subject is now more than 5 years old, so the VFA is keen to get a more recent take on things for best management and future investment.

The results of the previous study helped see a record $35 million investment of State Government funding into fishing across the state.

Ernst and Young’s new online survey is underway now and will produce three reports in spring: one for recreational fishing, one for boating and one for both pastimes. All three reports will be publicly available.

If you’re not randomly selected to complete the survey, you can still have your say. The VFA say they would love to hear your thoughts, which will be considered alongside the survey results. Just email your submission to helen.myroniuk@vfa.vic.gov.au by Friday, August 16.
