THE river trout season closes in Vioctoria and NSW at the end of the long weekend. But for Victorian anglers there’s no need to be glum because you can still catch big trout like this over winter in the Hopkins and Merri Rivers!
Under trout regulations introduced last year, these rivers for the first time, will remain open to fishing all year round.
The Hopkins and Merri Rivers are reliant on stocking and grow the biggest river trout in Victoria.
