FOR anglers looking for a versatile overhead offshore reel, I’d recommend the Fin-Nor Marquesa MA16 as worthy of serious consideration.
I’ve had the opportunity to field test this classy lever-drag overhead reel over the last 12 months and it has quickly become my go-to deepwater jigging reel. With a powerful carbon fibre drag system and snappy 6.1 to 1 retrieve ratio it’s ideally suited to this task and is also quite a good casting reel capable of casting 80 gram jigs up to 80 metres.
During the testing period I’ve found the Marquesa to require a minimum of maintenance. The tough 6061-T6 aircraft grade aluminium construction of this reel has only seen it requiring a freshwater washdown at the end of each session and it shows no sign of corrosion.
I really like the design and ergonomics of the Marquesa MA16. The one-piece open frame design and big comfortable handle make it a really fun, user friendly fishing tool.
