Tested: Samaki Pacemaker 180

HIGH performance bluewater trolling minnows that can genuinely hack the pace are about as common as an honest NSW politician. Most either break under the pressure of big fish hook ups or can’t be trolled at a fast enough speed to be used in conjunction with a spread of skirted trolling lures.

I had the opportunity to be involved in the field testing of the new Samaki Pacemaker 180 bluewater trolling minnow lures during Sydney’s recent tuna run, and can honestly say these fantastic new lures easily ticked all the required boxes.

We consistently trolled them in conjunction with a spread of skirted tuna pushers at speeds of around six knots all day. The lures coped easily with hook-ups on yellowfin tuna and albacore thanks to the super tough body being reinforced with a one-piece welded stainless steel wire internally. These lures come fitted with heavy duty split rings and tough VMC 3X Perma Steel treble hooks and are available in two depth ranges, the 180 Deep and 180 Double Deep.

These lures come in a range of 10 eye-catching colours that have some of the most realistic finishes I’ve ever seen on an artificial lure. My personal favourite is the 180DD yellowfin, it’s honestly the spitting image of a juvenile yellowfin tuna.

If you’re into serious bluewater trolling for large pelagic gamefish you really should check the Samaki Pacemaker 180 bluewater trolling minnows out.

The new Samaki Pacemaker 180 recently accounted for some nice tuna wide of Sydney recently.
