Tested: Samaki Vibelicious Thumper soft vibes

IN the 19 years that I’ve been writing for Fishing World I don’t think I’ve used a new lure that has had an impact on my fishing results like the Samaki Vibelicious Thumper 70mm. There are new soft vibe lures coming on the market every day at the moment, but the Thumper has taken this lure genre to a new level – it really is the next generation in soft vibe development.

Most soft vibe lures do their thing on the lift, generating those fish attracting vibrations then fall away to the bottom. The Thumper differs courtesy of its unique tail design; it vibes on the lift then swims down to the bottom with a strong fish attracting tail action.

I’ve caught so many flathead, bream and jewfish in recent weeks that have clobbered my Thumper while it’s swimming for the refuge of the bottom, it’s amazing! This innovative tail design also allows you to slow roll or even troll this versatile lure for saltwater pelagics or freshwater native species.

The other design aspect of the Thumper that sets it apart from the pack is its unique rear hook holding system. This ingenious development eliminates the common flaw found in most other soft vibes; that of hooks tangling or meshing together resulting in wasted casts, a pet hate of mine.

The Samaki Vibelicious Thumper 70mm weighs 10.8 grams and is made of super tough 10X material and features premium Japanese wire construction so you know they will outlast any other vibe on the market. They come in a range of 20 eye catching colours and are fitted with high quality chemically sharpened hooks and rings.

If you want to fish with the next generation of soft vibe lures then I suggest you check out the Samaki Vibelicious Thumper 70mm. I won’t go near an estuary without a Thumper tied on these days.

I RECENTLY spent 10 days fishing in the Kimberleys and took along some Vibelicous Thumper Tail lures to try out. Vibelicous lures have been a favourite of mine for a while as they’re super tough with a great vibrating action and are proven fish takers.

There are two main differences between the standard Vibelicous and the new Thumper Tails, with the Thumpers having a unique styled paddle tail that really vibrates and can be felt through the rod while retrieving the lure with either a straight retrieve or a hopping style retrieve.

The second difference is a unique way of holding the back set of trebles which stops the very annoying habit these type of lures can have of tail wrapping and hooks becoming tangled with each other. The people at Samaki really put their thinking hats on when designing the Thumpers.

The real test was to see how well they fished and I can report that they are exceptional fish catching lures. We took a host of tropical species which included barra, threadfin, jacks, golden snapper, trevally, queenfish, cod and a few others.

We had three sizes to try out: the 125mm/30.5 gram, 100mm/22gram and the 70mm/10.8 gram. I really took a shine to the 100mm and 70mm models. The only thing I would recommend is to take a few more than than the dozen or so I shared around the group of fishos on my latest trip. Nothing worse than running out of a hot lure with a couple of days to go!
