Time running out to stop netting in the Great Sandy Marine Park

THE Fraser Coast Fishing Alliance is reminding anglers to sign this petition and help stop commercial netting in the Great Sandy Marine Park. You’ll need to be quick though, as it closes on February 25.

Anglers are asked to sign THIS PETITION to request the Palaszczuk State Government to commit to ending destructive commercial netting operations in the Great Sandy Marine Park and adjacent waterways under the current full term 10 year review to restore fish stocks and help protect the Queensland urban coast’s largest dugong population.

The Great Sandy Designated Area incorporates areas of conservation park zones in:

  • Baffle Creek and tributaries
  • The Elliott River and tributaries
  • The Burrum River and tributaries
  • The Mary River and tributaries
  • The Great Sandy Strait and Tin Can Bay Inlet
According to the Alliance, their on-line petition has now passed 15,000 signatures but they will need all the support they can get to have copmmercial netting removed from the Great Sandy Marine Park.
