A TRAILERBOAT fisherman scored an impressive catch off Bermagui on the NSW South Coast last week.
While details are somewhat sketchy, the angler "Brett" was reportedly fishing offshore at night at a location known as the "sea mounts". Laurie Martin from Bermagui Bait & Tackle told Fisho the boat had live baits out - some with lumo glow sticks fitted - before a strike was eventually taken on a live yellowtail fished on the surface.
The broadbill was brought into Bermagui where it weighed in at 152kg. Martin says the angler is reportedly having a wall mount made of his catch.
Martin also reports that last weekend's annual yellowfin tournament hosted by the Canberra Game Fishing Club was taken out by a 58.5kg tuna. While he admits the tuna fishing off Bermagui has been spasmodic of late, some good fishing has been had by anglers who've ventured out to find reasonable patches of fish.
