Video: The Eucumbene River

AT this time of year the Eucumbene River in the NSW Snowy Mountains is descended upon by hundreds of anglers who target the large trophy-sized brown trout that gather in this snow-fed tributary in late autumn to spawn.

Unlike rainbow trout that are regularly stocked in Lake Eucumbene and other impoundments in the Snowies, the brown trout that enter the river are self-sustaining wild fish. While each season varies, a good brown trout spawning run ensures the fishery will continue to thrive well into the future.

This video captured by Tim McGoldrick of lureaddicts.com evokes the feeling of fishing for spawn run brown trout in Australia’s harsh yet beautiful high country.

The closing date for fishing for spawn run trout in NSW is the conclusion of the Queen’s Birthday long weekend on Monday 8 June. Fishing rules info can be found at www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries.
