VIDEO: US brewery develops fish-friendly 6-pack rings

A BREWERY in the United States has developed a 6-pack ring for holding beer cans that is edible for marine life including fish and turtles.

Saltwater Brewery was started by a group of fishos, surfers and ocean lovers and created the rings from barley and wheat remnants leftover from the brewing process.

The brewery also says that apart from being biodegradable and edible the rings are also strong enough to hold the beer cans.

Saltwater Brewery also says that if the big beer companies embrace the technology it will drive the cost down and make it affordable for all breweries.

Each year around one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals and sea turtles become entrapped in plastic or ingest it and die and it is hoped that this new technology will help redress that issue.
