A GROUP of NSW South Coast based fishos is asking the public for help in providing photos and stories that portray the glory days of Jervis Bay land-based game fishing.
Fishing Heritage Jervis Bay is a community based initiative with a primary goal of achieving public recognition and acknowledgement of the social (cultural) and historic values of land based game fishing in the Jervis Bay region.
The group need your stories and photos of Jervis Bay rock fishing to support a nomination for Commonwealth Heritage status. There is a requirement for evidence to support this nomination to ensure it reaches the significance threshold set by government. Your testimonies and photos, along with a literature review are to be an integral part of the submission (download submission form here).
While there are no assurances current restrictions will be removed, the campaign organisers say it will serve to broadly promote the positive aspects of rock fishing and help protect the sport in other areas.
The closing date for contributions to be included in the nomination is Friday February 17, 2012.
