Whole lotta love for new fish

A NEWLY discovered fish species has been named after legendary ’70s rock band Led Zeppelin.

According to fan website led-zeppelin.org, Auburn University graduate student Justin Havird named the species of fish, Lepidocephalichthys zeppelini (common name Zeppelin loach) because the fish’s pectoral fin reminded him of the double-neck guitar used by Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.

“I’m a big Led Zeppelin fan, and I was listening to them while I was working on the fish,” Havird said. “The structure that makes this species unique just reminded me of the guitar that Jimmy Page played.”

The Zeppelin loach is native to Thailand and Vietnam.

In the following video, Florida Museum ichthyology curator Larry Page goes behind the
scenes into the Museum’s fish collection and discusses the new species.
