Fishing Journeys – Episode 12 – Lake trout on lure and fly

AT the end of a long day, the carpark at Thompsons Creek Dam is often a sea of sad faces. It’s a tough fishery! TCD is located a few hours out of Sydney in Central West NSW and has a reputation for its trophy trout. But these trophy fish don’t come easy.

This was our second attempt to fish the lake. The first was abandoned due to snow and major road closures. When we did make it back, gale force westerlies and constant rain squalls made fishing hard. I was joined by fly fishing guide, Josh Hutchins and experienced freshwater fishos, and locals, Glen Stewart and Ken Smith.

Despite the toughest of conditions, TCD still produced fish on the day. Josh, Glen and Ken know the lake well and used the adverse conditions to their advantage.

If you’ve ever fished this lake, or for that matter are interested in targeting trout in any lake, you’ll find this week’s episode invaluable as we hear Josh and Glen’s secrets for catching trophy fish on fly and lure.

We hope you enjoy this week’s episode!
