THE new Shimano SpeedMaster LD is a multi-purpose compact and castable lever drag overhead with dual gears.
There are two sizes to choose from — a 12 and a 16 — both featuring Hagane gearing in two speed ratios (5.7:1 dropping down to 3.1:1). Line capacities are 350 metres and 440 metres of 10kg nylon monofilament respectively.
Being a lever drag, they are also versatile enough to fish a variety of line classes (including braid) and drag settings, with a maximum drag power of 18kg.
The single piece Hagane body means the stresses and strains associated with higher drag settings keeps all internals in perfect alignment and meshing smoothly, assisted in this regard by the presence of four SA-RB bearings.
The SpeedMaster’s S Concept Design is reminiscent of Shimano’s Talicas, and increased corrosion resistance will have them looking good for years to come.
