POLICE Media has confirmed with Fishing World that fishing will be allowed under the current social distancing rules in place.

The announcement came after confusion between several departments and mixed messages on social media. Several states are allowing residents to fish locally for food while stlll maintaining the strict rules in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Queensland made a similar announcement yesterday allowing people to fish for food.

NSW Minister for Primary Industries Adam Marshall confirmed the news on a social media post this afternoon.

“I’ve received many calls, texts and emails today from locals and people around the State concerned that recreational fishing is not allowed – it definitely is!,” said the Minister.

“As long as all the social distancing and gathering restrictions are followed, ie no more than 2 people, unless it’s family, and keeping the appropriate distance from each other, then go for a fish is still ok,” he said.
