THE annual catch limits for black jewfish in some Queensland inshore management regions have been reached. This means black jewfish is a no-take species for commercial fishers in these regions for the rest of the 2022 calendar year.

Recreational fishers can continue to take black jewfish on the East Coast until the total annual catch limit has been reached.

There is also a requirement for all fishers (commercial and recreational) to land black jewfish whole to prevent the processing of the fish at sea to remove the valuable swim bladders.

To help fishers comply with these new fishing rules, species identification and rule guides have been developed for commercial fishers (PDF, 262.7KB) and recreational fishers (PDF, 263.5KB).
