THE new federal ministry has been sworn in, as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese addressed Labor senators and MPs at the first federal caucus since the party won the federal election.

Tanya Plibersek will head up the Environment and Water portfolio, covering marine parks.

Meanwhile, Murray Watt, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and Emergency Management will cover fisheries issues, like “super trawlers” and offshore quotas.

Right off the bat, the new ministers will face challenging issues in the Murray-Darling Basin and a greater Chinese commercial fishing presence in the Pacific.
