HARVEST strategies are a key component of modern fisheries management across Australia and in other parts of the world.

NSW DPI says, the introduction of harvest strategies for NSW fisheries will provide a robust and transparent framework for future decision making, including the determination of total allowable catch and effort levels and recreational bag and size limits.

The NSW Government has released a draft policy and guidelines to steer the development of formal harvest strategies for NSW Fisheries.

Harvest strategies will be drafted by working groups comprised of an independent chair, independent scientist and independent economist, along with representatives from the commercial, recreational and Aboriginal fishing sectors, as well as DPI.

Working groups for the Trawl Whiting and Rock Lobster fisheries have already been established and working groups for other fisheries will follow.

The draft policy and guidelines are available for review by visiting this link.

Have your say before 22 January 2021.
