The “weird catches” continue….

AFTER reading about the unusual catch made at Lake Macquarie early this week, Fisho reader Chad Busteed sent us an email and photo of his own weird catch.

“Here is a giant herring caught at Dunbogan NSW (mid North Coast) in Googlies Lagoon on a 2-inch banana prawn. Hope you can use it.”

We sure can Chad, thanks for the photo. Hope your fish was tasty!

It does appear a few more of these exciting sportfish are encountered in southern waters than we realise – here’s another recent example. Maybe we shouldn’t be all that  surprised either; according to AFN’s Australian Fish Guide by Frank Prokop, the range of giant herring is “from Albany in Western Australia around the top end and throughout Queensland to Nowra in NSW, although giant herring have been recorded in South Australia.”

Any other readers in Australia’s “bottom half” catch a giant herring lately?

What's your reaction?
